5th Medi-Rally and 9th Prehospital Emergency Health Services Symposium Held

The “National Paramedic Students Medi-Rally Competition and Prehospital Emergency Health Services Symposium,” hosted by Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University at the Güzelyalı National Teams Camp and Training Center on 12–13 May, was successfully completed.

This year’s 5th Medi-Rally competition brought together a total of 16 teams from 10 different universities. Within the scope of the competition, five simulation stages were designed, including cardiac emergencies (unstable tachyarrhythmia), triage (natural gas explosion), pediatric arrest (drowning), trauma (fall from height following electric shock), and a knowledge quiz. Realistic scenarios were implemented in all stages using simulated patients and advanced simulation tools.

Based on the evaluations of 35 jury members, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University ranked first, Işık University second, and Sakarya University of Applied Sciences third.

The event was organized under the leadership of Dr. Emine Sevinç Postacı, a faculty member of the Vocational School of Health Services, with the organizing committee consisting of Dr. İbrahim Uysal, postgraduate students Furkan Tetik and İlker Kirlioğlu from the Master’s Program in First and Emergency Aid, and instructors Akın Turan and Hakan Alan. The First and Emergency Aid students also actively contributed to the organization, ensuring its successful execution at the national level.

On the second day of the event, the “Prehospital Emergency Health Services Symposium” addressed current challenges, innovative approaches, scientific developments, and future perspectives in prehospital emergency care through presentations by field experts.

The symposium was attended by Çanakkale Provincial Health Director Dr. Hakan Görgülü, Deputy Director of Health Services Okay Karabiber, Director of the Vocational School of Health Services Dr. Mustafa Ekici, Head of the Department of Medical Services and Techniques Assoc. Prof. Suat Çakına, academics, healthcare professionals, and students.

In his opening speech, Dr. Mustafa Ekici emphasized that prehospital emergency health services require rapid response and strong teamwork, highlighting that students would represent not only medical intervention but also hope, trust, and professionalism. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the organization.

Program Coordinator Dr. İbrahim Uysal stated that the Medi-Rally competition is a significant event where professional knowledge, skills, crisis management, communication, and team coordination are demonstrated in practice. He emphasized that the main goal of the event is learning, sharing, gaining experience, and contributing to professional development, while also underlining the importance of the created learning ecosystem for the future of emergency health services.

In the inspiring atmosphere of Çanakkale, awards, trophies, and medals were presented to successful participants, while plaques were awarded to instructors and speakers. Commemorative medals were given to all participants, and additional mini-competition winners also received awards. The event concluded with a closing ceremony and a group commemorative photo session.
